Accra, Ghana – March 12, 2025 – The Ghana Commodity Exchange (GCX) welcomed a delegation of 20 students from the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), Yale School of Management, ESMT Berlin, and EGADE Business School for an educational visit aimed at deepening their understanding of commodity trading, financial markets, and career opportunities within the sector.

The delegation was led by Dr. Emmanuel Joel Aikins Abakah and Dr. Baah Kusi, Senior Lecturers at UGBS, and was warmly received by Dr. Harold Okai-Tettey, Head of Information Technology and Systems at GCX. The visit provided an in-depth look at GCX’s mission and operations and its critical role in enhancing trade facilitation and financial market development.

Students participated in a series of presentations covering an overview of the Exchange, its role in commodity trading, and its impact on market actors, led by Wendy Malm, Head of Trading, Central Depository & Market Surveillance. Joseph Nai Anum, Assistant Manager, Memberships and Special Projects, provided insights into the membership process, eligibility criteria, and benefits of joining the Exchange. Additionally, students observed a live demonstration of GCX’s trading mechanisms, including buying, selling, and transaction processes

Beyond the presentations, students engaged in an interactive facility tour and discussions with industry professionals. The visit provided practical exposure to real-world market applications, reinforcing the link between academic learning and industry practice.

Speaking on the visit, Dr. Emmanuel Joel Aikins Abakah emphasized the importance of such engagements in bridging the gap between academia and industry, while Dr. Harold Okai-Tettey highlighted GCX’s commitment to knowledge-sharing and capacity-building in Ghana’s financial and commodity markets.

This engagement reflects GCX’s commitment to fostering knowledge-sharing between academia and the financial sector, contributing to the development of future leaders in commodity trading and market finance across Africa.
