GCX 2025 NATIONAL FARMERS DAY SPEECH - REGIONAL

GCX 2025 NATIONAL FARMERS DAY SPEECH - REGIONAL image

Honourable Regional Minister, invited guests, esteemed farmers, ladies, and gentlemen.

I am delighted to be part of this year's Farmers' Day celebration, themed "Eat Ghana, Grow Ghana, Secure the Future." This occasion is a testament to the hard work and dedication of Ghanaian farmers, who are the backbone of our economy.

As the representative of the Ghana Commodity Exchange (GCX), I would like to highlight the critical role that structured markets play in ensuring that farmers receive fair prices for their produce. GCX provides a platform for buyers and sellers to trade in a secure and transparent environment, reducing the risks associated with agricultural trade.

However, we are aware of the challenges facing the sector, including post-harvest losses, limited access to finance, and the influx of imported goods that can undercut local produce. To address these issues, we propose the development of structured value chains, where farmers can access inputs, finance, and markets in a coordinated manner.

Initiatives like the Ghana Horticulture Expo 2025 demonstrate the government's commitment to agricultural transformation. We believe that public-private partnerships can drive innovation and investment in the sector, creating opportunities for farmers to increase their productivity and incomes.

To make Farmers' Day a turning point, we need to focus on building a structured system that attracts investment and provides farmers with the tools they need to succeed. This includes access to quality seeds, fertilizers, and equipment, as well as training and support to improve productivity and competitiveness.

At GCX, we are committed to supporting farmers and traders by providing a platform for price discovery, risk management, and market access. We believe that by working together, we can build a more resilient and prosperous agricultural sector that benefits all Ghanaians.

Let us work towards a future where agriculture is a thriving sector that attracts investment, creates jobs, and ensures food security for all. Thank you.
