Paddy Rice

Paddy rice is the whole rice grain with the husks. It is a coarser product than brown rice, which is the rice grain without the husks but still containing the bran (a byproduct of the rice milling process i.e. the conversion of brown rice to white rice), or polished rice, which is the rice without the bran.

Milled Rice

Rice that is processed with the husk, the bran layers and the germ removed. It is the most common form of rice available. It may also be referred to as white rice, regular rice, or milled white rice.

Unlike typical brown rice, which has only the husk removed, it also has the rice bran layer and the germ of the rice removed. This tends to make for fluffier rice, which is usually white to light yellow in color.

Parboiled Rice

Parboiled rice (also called converted rice and easy-cook rice) is rice that has been partially boiled in the husk. The three basic steps of parboiling are soaking, steaming and drying. These steps make the rice easier to process by hand, while also boosting its nutritional profile, changing its texture, and making it more resistant to weevils. About 50% of the world's paddy production is parboiled. The treatment is practiced in many parts of the world such as Ghana, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Guinea, South Africa, Italy, Spain, Nigeria, Thailand, Switzerland, USA and France.
